North China Electric Power University , referred to as Huadian or North China Electric Power , is a national "211 Project" key construction university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the school council consisting of seven large electric power enterprise groups such as the State Grid Corporation of China . Disciplinary Construction of Universities. The school was founded in 1958, formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Electric Power, and has since been renamed with a change of address. In 1978, approved by the State Council as a national key university. In May 1995, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, North China Electric Power University and Beijing Power Economics College were merged into North China Electric Power University. The school's school headquarters was originally established in Baoding . In 2005, the school headquarters was changed to be located in Beijing, and the Baoding campus was divided into two areas for integrated management.

At present, the school has 2 national key disciplines, 16 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 2 key ministries of the Ministry of Education, 6 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 1 national thermal power engineering research center, 1 biomass National Engineering Laboratory for Power Generation Equipment, 1 State Key Laboratory of New Energy Power System, 2 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, 1 Ministry of Education Power Energy Conservation Engineering Research Center, and 1 Beijing Energy Development Research Base (Arts); There are 4 postdoctoral scientific research stations and 27 doctoral programs (including 5 electrical engineering, power engineering and engineering thermal physics, management science and engineering, etc.), 120 master degree programs, and 61 A bachelor degree, 5 bachelor degree majors, and MBA and engineering master degree conferment rights; the school now covers an area of 1609 acres, a total construction area of 1 million square meters, total assets of 2.7 billion yuan, including teaching and research equipment 300 million yuan, 1.5 million volumes of library books. Foundation Period (1950-1958) [ Edit ]
In September 1950, the Electric Power Workers School was established in Daban Hutong, Xicheng District, Beijing, under the administration of the General Administration of Electric Power of the Ministry of Fuel Industry.
In September 1951, the electric power worker school was relocated to Tianjin and became a “part of Tianjin Industrial School”.
In June 1952, the Electrical Workers School set up a new campus beside Guangtong Temple outside Xizhimen in Beijing. In September, the Electrical Workers School was relocated from the new campus of Tianjin Huiqian and renamed Beijing Electric Industry School, under the Central Ministry of Fuel Industry General Administration of Management.
In May 1953, Beijing Electric Industry School was renamed Beijing Electric Power Industrial School and was under the administration of the General Administration of Electric Power of the Ministry of Fuel Industry.
Beijing Institute of Electric Power (1958-1970) [ Edit ]
On November 27, 1958, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, according to the development needs of the national water conservancy and electric power business, it was decided to establish the Beijing Institute of Electric Power based on the Beijing Electric Power School .

校徽釋義[編輯]
校徽採用藍色和紅色為基調色。藍色體現了華電珍視環境，關注生態，實現可持續、科學和諧的發展理念；紅色象徵著華電人激情勃發，迎著朝陽跨越前進的豪情與壯志二兩種色彩交織在一起，構成了華電人追求科學、和諧，實現又好又快發展的美好願景。
校標中心紅色變形的「E」字是Electric Power（電力）的第一個字母，體現了學校以傳統優勢學科為基礎，以新興能源學科為重點，以文理學科為支撐的「大電力」學科體系的辦學特色。白色的「U」字端莊穩重，是University（大學）的縮寫，喻示著這所教育部直屬的「211工程」重點建設大學，正朝著多科性、研究型、國際化高水平大學的奮鬥日標努力奮進。下方的「1958」代表學校建於1958年。
